A CONVERSATION WITH ABIGAIL ARUNA

Happy Easter to you! For us at The Fabulous Woman Network, we have a bonus reason to celebrate: we are 7 years old this week! To God be the glory. As we celebrate all the goodness God has blessed us with, I would like you to pause and listen to this Mind Your Business interview with the fabulous Abigail Aruna.

Abigail is the CEO of Clean Team Ghana Limited, (CTGL) a social enterprise that provides dignified toilets to low-income urban households in Kumasi. She was the second employee to join Clean Team and has been an integral part of its growth from 100 users to more than 16,000 today. She has through her time with Clean Team developed efficient systems to make sanitation for low-income consumers affordable.

She is regarded as a sanitation leader in West Africa and has been called to share her rich experience across the region by various organisations, such as WaterAid and WSUP. Abigail holds an MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and Rural Development from the School of Business and the Department of Geography and Rural Development at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

Abigail also mentors students from tertiary institutions who come on industrial attachment with Clean Team. She hopes to leverage her network and learnings to replicate and scale efficient systems across the region. As well as making sanitation businesses profitable so they can be enjoyed by many more low-income households, Abigail is excited by the prospect of influencing local and international sanitation policy to make sanitation more equitable and providing high quality jobs to combat spiraling youth unemployment across Ghana and Africa.

For me, I was drawn to the way she perceived her experiences and turned seemingly negative ones into positives. Listen to the full interview yourself and let me know what you gleaned from it. And oh, remain fabulous!
